Mara E. Schechter

Mara Schechter joined Upton, Mickits & Heymann in 2021 focusing on mortgage-related legal services and representing lenders in courts of original and appellate jurisdiction. She was admitted to the Texas Bar in 2013 and holds bar licenses in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. She is admitted to practice before several federal courts, bankruptcy courts and before the United States Supreme Court.Recently, she served as an Assistant District Attorney for Nueces County and as a Municipal Court Judge for the City of Corpus Christi.

Ms. Schechter has provided civil litigation and appellate support to attorneys in Texas and the Mid-Atlantic region and served as supervisory litigation defense counsel to international insurance companies in business, employment, environmental, insurance defense and tort actions in various state and federal courts of original and appellate jurisdiction and in military administrative hearings before the Pentagon.

Ms. Schechter served as the Coach for the W. B. Ray High School Mock Trial Regional Championship Teams 2015-2020. She has been involved with mock trial presidingas Judge/Chief Judge for the Regional Championships 2020-2026, Chief Judge for the 2025 and 2026 Jimi Derrick Constitutional Moot Court Competition for St. Mary’s Law School and Judge for the American Mock Trial Association Scrimmage, Northwestern-Yale, 2021. She served as President of the Corpus Christi Symphony Guild and on the Board and several committees of the Coastal Bend Women Lawyers Association.

After completing an undergraduate degree in International Relations at Johns Hopkins University, Mara Schechter obtained her law degree from Fordham University School of Law, where she was a member of the Fordham Urban Law Journal. In 2007, she obtained a Master of Business Administration from Texas A & M University – Corpus Christi and is honored to hold a position as an adjunct professor of law there. In 2024, she received a Project Management Certificate from Cornell University School of Engineering. Prior to that, Ms. Schechter attended a Harvard Law School program taught by William Ury and received a Negotiation and Leadership Certification.
