Our Attorneys

Scott was born in Plymouth Michigan. He attended college at Michigan State University, receiving his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science with a minor in History in 1986. He attended Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing Michigan, and received his Juris Doctorate (cum laude) in 1989.

After graduation, Scott moved to South Carolina. He was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 1989, and began practice with a small insurance defense firm located in Beaufort, South Carolina. He was named a partner in the firm in 1994. During his time in South Carolina, Scott handled all aspects of insurance defense in various state and federal courts, including appeals to the Texas Court of Appeals, Texas Supreme Court and 4th Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia.

Scott moved to Texas in 2002 and worked as staff counsel for State Farm handling automobile litigation and homeowners and commercial claims. He was named managing attorney for Affirmative Insurance Services in 2006, and managed a state-wide practice and an active docket of trial cases. Scott moved to The Hartford in 2009, and worked as Senior Counsel handling a wide variety of cases. He was promoted to managing attorney in 2016, and was responsible for overseeing The Hartford’s staff counsel operations in Texas and Oklahoma. As a trial attorney, Scott has tried over 200 cases to verdict as first chair, covering a wide range of subject areas. His trial experience covers a wide area, including automobile/trucking accidents, FELA claims, products defense, defending contractors, subcontractors and design professionals in construction claims, premises liability, wrongful death, workplace injuries, fire claims and first party claims against insurance carriers.

Scott has also been actively involved in community activities, and is a past president of a Rotary Club, the president of a non-profit community festival, and is currently serving as the Vice-Chair of the Texas High School Mock Trial Program. He has been married to Kendra Seelhoff since 1990 and they enjoy traveling and raising horses.
